My first fluff story for the 671st

I remember the day when my platoon prepared to make landfall on the shores of the river Nygar on the planet Nathium. The 671st Support was called in to help create bridges over the planets many rivers, and fortify the weakened damns and flood gates. We were relatively untrained in planet wide conflict, and we had never made planet fall on a hostile planet. We had no idea the slaughter we were dropping into, nor did we know the strength or horrifying tenacity the chaos guard held onto the little terrain they still owned. This was a massive slip up on the intelligence division.

'Listen up troopers!' I jumped as the platoon commanders voice cut through the roar of the the Valkyries engine. 'You are dropping into a little contested area of the planet called Yulors Field. You will land at the dz, and will proceed 2 clicks east to the river. Cleanse the area of all enemies and heretics, and call in for the supplies. After the supplies have been dropped, build the pontoon bridge and hold it till 8th and 9th platoon arrive with armored support. Then, and only then will you be relieved and sent to regimental HQ and fortify the position there. Understood?' There was no pause between the commanders orders and the resounding 'Yes sir!' from nearly the entire platoon. Only the sergeants didn't reply.

The rumbling of the passenger compartment and the dull, green light, signaled that it was our time to leave the relative safety of the Valkyrie and step into whatever hell awaited us. We all checked our gear one last time, and slowly, one by one, we raised our arms into a prayer to the emperor. The sergeant yelled 'Breach!' and the back door to the Valkyrie dropped outwards, showing only what the engines exhaust light up in the dark night sky. We all ran out of the back of the Valkyrie, and whipped our lasguns out from their holster and took up kneeling defensive positions.
